Poland is currently the top producer of poultry in EU. We are also a leader among exporters. We must join forces to search for new markets and globally promote European high production standards. They are a fundamental advantage of Polish poultry on world markets. Polish poultry is already praised in Asia and Africa.

The world poultry market is dominated by the relatively narrow group of countries. The top global poultry producers are USA, Brazil and EU, in which Poland is the most important producer. Globally we can observe lower supply versus demand, which in the short term leads to weakening the market position of the weaker producers. This situation means that along with creating and establishing the awareness of advantages of Polish poultry among long-term customers we need to aggressively promote export and defend our own market at the same time.

Liberalisation of the trade with the third countries is a symptom of globalisation. NPC-CC is aware that the globalisation of poultry trade is an unavoidable process and it is leading to create a healthy competition on the world market. But some of negotiated treaties are made without taking in account the fact that the EU animal production is regulated by more strict laws than in case of world’s top poultry producers: USA (TTiP) or Brazil (MERCOSUR). In effect the EU producers – including Poland – lose their ability to compete with third countries on price basis. That’s why the key matter in import is enforcing long-established EU poultry meat standards, which guarantee the appropriate quality and health security to customers. The vital pre-requisite is to convince the world’s top producers to adjust their export goods to the obligatory EU legal standards, which are demanded and expected by society. If that condition won’t be met, the opening of EU borders for American or Brazilian poultry may severely harm the image of the poultry industry and significantly lower the demand for poultry meat in whole EU. The cause of the demand drop would be breeding and production standards contrary to the customers’ expectations.

In its mission to protect the Polish market, NPC-CC intensively promotes the export and searches for the new markets for Polish poultry. The efforts in this matter are for example the part of three year campaign “European Poultry – The Power of Quality”, co-financed by the European Union. This campaign is targeted to reach markets of China with Hong Kong, Vietnam and United Arab Emirates. The export to other third countries, as South Africa or Taiwan, is also actively promoted.

Because of the potential of the market, enlarging the Polish poultry products export to China is one of the most important development paths for Polish poultry sector. In 2016 NPC-CC had signed the memorandum with China Inspection and Quarantine (CIQA), which will enhance the procedure of export to Chinese market. The milestone in Polish-Chinese export relations was also an agreement on control of harmful substances in poultry products destined for the Middle Kingdom market.  In May 2016 we have witnessed an unprecedented event – the opening of NPC-CC representative office in China. The office is responsible for shaping the business and trade relations between Polish producers and Chinese entrepreneurs and government institutions.
